Career description

The training of psychotherapists in this Master's Degree program, is oriented to a method, which in the last decade of the last century has become more and more popular: the integrative orientation, which is defined as: psychotherapeutic approaches that include different aspects of various orientations in relation to the specific conditions and where the emphasis is placed on the therapeutic bond.

What will you learn during the program?

In this Master's Degree program, the students will learn:

a) to know and apply techniques to modify maladaptive behavior patterns.

b) to minimize or eliminate the environmental conditions that may be causing and/or maintaining such behavior.

c) to improve interpersonal and related skills.

d) to resolve disabling internal conflicts and to alleviate personal distress.

e) to modify the individual's inaccurate conceptions of self, others as well as of the world.

f) to foster a clear sense of self-identity.

All of these would be the ways to open paths to a fuller and more meaningful existence.

The Master's program in Psychotherapy offers students the opportunity to develop competencies for their performance in this area, through theoretical and practical activities that allow them to train and develop knowledge, abilities and skills, attitudes and values, to provide quality service in the field of Psychotherapy.

Being an open system curriculum, students may initiate their studies at the beginning of each term, upon completing the requirements and having the required credits and accrediting one hundred hours of personal psychotherapy, will be recognized as Magister Artium in Psychotherapy according to the General Regulations of Postgraduate Studies at the University of Mariano Galvez of Guatemala.

Career Opportunities

They can work in private clinics, hospitals, governmental and non-governmental organizations engaged in the care of people with mental health problems.
