The Bachelor's Degree in Legal and Social Sciences integrates the study of the legal institutions of Law, from the point of view of doctrine, legislation and jurisprudence; its application to the practical area and the strengthening of the competences necessary for the practice of the profession of Lawyer and Notary; having as a transversal axis, internationalization, ethics and human rights.

The student will acquire theoretical and practical knowledge in all areas of law, from its philosophical and historical foundations to the application of Guatemalan procedural law, knowledge of Guatemalan Procedural Law, learning the theoretical and practical tools for the theoretical-practical tools for the resolution of concrete cases, based on professional ethics and aware that the professional ethics and aware that the law is at the service of society.

The applicant to the career of Legal and Social Sciences must have a marked interest in law and social dynamics, showing an analytical and critical mind. Oral and written communication skills and a strong sense of ethics are essential. He/she must be able to work in a team and adapt to the evolution of the legal and social framework, committing him/herself to constant learning in order to face professional challenges in an effective manner.

The updated syllabus of the Law and Social Sciences Faculty allows its graduates to develop qualities, skills and competences relevant to the profession, including the following:
a) Has a sense of responsibility based on professional ethics, with respect for human rights, especially the dignity of the person.
b) He/she is involved in the research process, in order to apply the appropriate legal methodologies and techniques in the development of practical cases of public and private law.
c) He/she is critical of the political, social and economic context of the country, and generates proposals for viable solutions to national problems that respond to the demands required by Guatemalans, thus contributing to the realization of the common good, as the supreme goal.
d) He/she is competent to enter the demand for labour in the justice system, public administration, private initiative and in professional practice.
Career Opportunities
The practice of the legal profession can be developed in the justice system as a judge, prosecutor, defence lawyer, legal advisor, as well as the liberal practice of the profession by directing and prosecuting cases in the different courts of the republic.
In this career the student can also obtain the title of Notary, which allows professionals to work in private offices, authenticating public instruments for which the law empowers them, such as Public Documents, Notarial Acts, legalizations of documents or signatures, among others that the notarial law prescribes.
